Golf Breaks In Wales

Marriott St. Pierre Hotel & Country Club

The two excellent golf courses at St. Pierre have been instrumental in the establishment of the resort as one of the best in Wales and beyond.

Set in 400 acres of stunning Monmouthshire countryside, the 14th century manor home that is now home to the hotel at St. Pierre is truly incredible.

The investment programme currently underway will only serve to enhance the already excellent standards throughout this 4* venue. St. Pierre represents the perfect blend, with the character of the ancient architecture being superbly complemented by the top-class modern amenities.

The spacious guest rooms are finished with the finest furnishings, and this attitude has resulted in first-class dining and leisure possibilities. All this is embellished by the fact that the resort at St. Pierre is within a short distance of the M4, making it easily accessible for most visitors.

The excellent spa facility on-site at Marriott St. Pierre offers guests the chance to try one of a range of tremendous treatments, including body scrubs and wraps, facials, manicures, pedicures, massages and many more. For leisure, try the swimming pool, spa bath, sauna, steam room, well-equipped gym and floodlit tennis courts.

In the Mathern and Panel rooms of the Orangery, the excellent menu includes both international and Welsh cuisine.

Zest serves good food and drinks in a relaxed bar setting.

Old Course
St. Pierre's Old Course is one the best parkland layouts in the country, and is a recognised tournament host, having welcomed the top LPGA professionals for the Solheim Cup in 1996. The course has now matured nicely into a genuine challenge for even the best golfers, with some particularly memorable holes. A round on the old reaches a crescendo with the superb closing two, where visitors must negotiate the 17th green, almost surrounded by an expansive water hazard, and the final hole's difficult elevated green.

Mathern Course
The neighbouring Mathern Course, although considerably shorter than the Old, is an extremely enjoyable layout. It is parkland in style, but players must also tackle the mature trees that provide obstacles on many holes. Opened in 1975, the Mathern continues to delight visitors with some very good golf, and even better views of the surrounding Monmouthshire countryside.

If you fancy a flutter, the race course at Chepstow has regular meetings, and is within a short drive of the resort.
